Registration for the spring is coming soon! To learn more about what’s on offer in History, point your browser to http://history.voices.wooster.edu/courses/, or click on the “Courses” tab of the History Blog. You will see the course schedule for History together with up-to-date descriptions of these courses.
Please, please, take a good look before registering for History courses in the spring. And please, if your professor asks why you decided to take her course, don’t say that you needed a W class and wanted something MWF at 10! A good response would go something like this: “I’ve always wanted to learn more about [insert subject here] and was excited to see that we’re going to be reading [insert book from course description here], one of my favorite history books of all time.”
You’ll notice a number of new and exciting classes. We have a great set of offerings in the History 101 rubric. These are, with the exception of Prof. Gedalecia’s “Western Travelers to China,” “W” courses, and will count toward the College writing requirement. In principle, these courses are restricted to first and second year students, though upper-level students may sometimes find their way in with the permission of the instructor, after all of the first and second years have registered. Among the new (or relatively new) offerings are courses on Atomic America, Black Radical Europe, and Teddy Roosevelt’s America.
You’ll also see that there are two courses offered as History 199s. These are special topics courses, including the History of Jews and Third World Rising.
And be sure to check out the History 301s, topics courses that focus on a range of subjects, from Women’s Lives in Latin America, Islam & Societies in Africa, and Black Transnational Movements. These courses demand more reading than a 101, but they have no prerequisites.
As always, if you have questions about History courses or registration, don’t hesitate to contact me or the course instructor! Happy registering! gks
