Summer Vocational Exploration With the Lilly Project

Lilly House, Home of the Lilly Project

While my colleagues were eating samosas and drinking lassis at the South Asian party a couple weeks back, I walked up to the Lilly House to hear more about the Summer Vocational fellowships and internships sponsored by the Lilly Project. I’m glad I did, for I learned about some wonderful opportunities for students. I hope some of you will investigate and pursue a proposal for a summer project.

The Lilly Project sponsors programs in Summer Vocational Exploration that allow students to explore their passions, their interests, and their social commitments. Through the support of the Medical Humanitarian Internship, students can participate in the work of medical aid agencies anywhere in the world. With the help of the Legal Humanitarian Internship, students can take part in a domestic humanitarian legal aid organization. With the Azimuth Program, students can develop a summer internship that helps them to explore their passions, wherever they may lead. The Lilly Project also sponsors students to spend time at the Rhodes University International Program in South Africa, for a four-week academic program focusing on social justice, race & human rights.

To learn more, you should check out the Lilly Project website at http://www.wooster.edu/Academics/Student-Academic-Support-Centers/Lilly-Project/exploration You’ll see that there is enormous flexibility in what can be done – but that putting together a proposal will require significant time and effort and the help of a faculty member.

There are also two events coming up soon that will provide an opportunity to learn more. The Lilly Project has two events in the next week to highlight projects that students did in the last year. See below for details.
