Come join us this Tuesday night – Tuesday, November 19, at 6:30 pm (Lean Lecture Room) – for a film showing of “Prince Among Slaves,” a historical documentary directed, written and produced by Andrea Kalin and narrated by Mos Def. The film tells the true story of Abdulrahman Ibrahim Ibn Sori, an African Muslim prince who was captured in war and sold into slavery in America. After being enslaved for forty years in Mississippi, he finally regained his freedom, and worked to try to gain freedom for his extended family and friends as well. Assistant Professor Ibra Sene will present a brief talk before the film and will lead a discussion afterwards.
This event made possible by the “Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys” grant sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association.
