Café Bob: New Social Movements in India

The History Department cordially invites you to the first Cafe Bob of the year,  Thursday, Oct. 4 at 11am, in Kauke 137. We will hear from our distinguished Visiting Gillespie Professor, Sucheta Mahajan, an expert in late colonialism, independence, partition, and other topics in 20th century South Asian history.

Professor Mahajan will give us a brief research presentation titled “From Child Labourers to Schoolgoers: A Historian’s Look at New Social Movements in India” and will then lead a discussion afterwards on the study of modern education and social history.

Dr. Mahajan is the author of numerous books, including Independence and Partition: The Erosion of Colonial Power in India (Sage, 2000), India’s Struggle for Independence (Viking, 1988), and Education for Social Change: MVF and Child Labour (National Book Trust, 2008).

Come help us kick off an awesome year of history roundtables that will include “How to Get a Job with a History Degree,” “Presidential Elections in History,” and lots more of your favorites!  Refreshments will be provided.
