Senior I.S. Students: Copeland Fund Information

In 1995, the Board of Trustees established the Henry J. Copeland Fund for Independent Study.  This generous fund is a competitive grant to enhance Senior I.S. research projects.  In the past, History majors have won grants to perform archival research, attend public history workshops, conduct oral history interviews in Chile, and photograph war memorials to complete a digital history of Paris’s memorial architecture.

Students interested in applying for Copeland funds should talk with their advisors ASAP as the first deadline is this Friday, Sept 16.

This year, there will be two proposal deadlines. The earlier deadline is intended to allow the committee time to make early awards of Copeland funds to time-sensitive applications. This will allow students who can demonstrate an early need for access to funds to begin their Copeland-related research in time to plan for activities such as the purchasing of scientific equipment or travel during Fall Break or Thanksgiving Recess.

Proposals which do not qualify for early Copeland funding during the first round, but could be feasibly completed later in the academic year, will be automatically placed for consideration in the second round. Deadlines for the fall program are 11:59 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2016 and Friday, October 21, 2016.
